My guilty pleasure for Mexican food has to be from Taqueria San Jose. I’ll drive pass all the taquerias on Chicago’s east side and go north to Bridgeport just for their chicken enchiladas and steak tacos. I was first introduced to Taqueria San Jose by my husband. He works at a nearby hospital and knows some of the “greasy spoon” spots in the area. He’s also a huge fan of Mexican food. It may be as serious as my Chinese food addiction!
Taqueria San Jose has all the usual suspects, like tacos, burritos, tortas, quesadillas, enchiladas, and fajitas. My go to items are the chicken enchiladas and the steak tacos with cilantro, onions and cheese with double rice. I’m not a fan of refried beans, but recently I tried their chicken torta – which includes refried beans, and surprisingly it wasn’t bad. It was definitely filling. The only item this restaurant is missing is tamales. If you’re looking for a great tamale, I would suggest you try out Maravillas in Hyde Park. They’re $2 each, but worth it.
You can call-in or order your items online. Generally it takes about 10-15 minutes for the order to be ready.
