I generally don’t eat a lot of food from the South Shore neighborhood, but Surf’s Up South Shore appeared a few times in my Instagram feed so I decided to give it a try. According to the website, the restaurant serves cajun and creole style seafood. As it’s lunch time and I need a quick bite before my next remote meeting, I go the catfish special.
Also featured on The Jam Tv Show, Surf’s Up South Shore is owned by a black woman who is also a special education Chicago Public School teacher. The food had some great flavors. The catfish was nicely seasoned as well as the corn on the cob. The red potatoes weren’t bad too. However the winner for me were the beignets. Yeah, they aren’t the traditional beignets that you get in New Orleans. They reminded me of the cake donuts at Dunkin Donuts, but with a more dense texture.
Next time I order food from Surf’s Up South Shore, I’ll try the Henessey flavored wings, fried lobster tails, and fried green tomatoes.
