I first saw Lexington Betty Smokehouse featured on Chicago’s Best tv show. Although they have two locations on the far West and South regions of Chicago, I was more excited to see that the owner was a black woman and was using a smoking technique to cook her food. Plus the sides and desserts didn’t look bad too!
For my first visit I wanted to try everything, however their menu is limited each day. So I decided to get the 2 meat special with 2 sides which I chose the brisket, ribs, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and an additional side of greens.
Although the food looks great, I will have to give it another try before I decide if it will become one of my favorite spots or not. The yams weren’t sweet as most candied yams. Although tasty, the portion of the ribs and brisket were very small – about 3 ribs and 3 slices of brisket. I’m wondering if the portion size of the rib tips would have been better, or if I should get the three meat portion next time instead. My husband also got the pork hot links which came with a bun. Something he wasn’t expecting and pretty much threw away. I wanted a slice of the caramel cake, but there wasn’t any available when we went, which was on a Wednesday later afternoon. The other dessert they serve is banana pudding, which I despise bananas – totally not their fault, but I was left with no dessert option. Not even cookies.
If I decide to give it another try, I’ll be sure to give you an update.
