Chinese Food – Oh How I Adore You

157

Anyone who truly knows me should be aware that I am down for Chinese food once a week. Heck you can include Vietnamese and Thai food too! Between the sauces, flavors and cooking styles, you could literally have a different meal every day. In fact, when I go on vacation, I’m usually on the hunt for the area’s best Asian spot on Yelp. For instance, my husband and I took a 3-day trip to St. Louis. By the way, if you are visiting St. Louis, stay at the St. Louis Union Station Hotel (Curio Collection by Hilton).  It’s a gorgeous hotel with a lot of amenities and activities!

In St. Louis we saw some popular sites like The Delmar Loop, the Gateway Arch, and Ted Drewes, but while there, we stopped at Pho Grand. The prices were very reasonable. We had the shrimp eggrolls and chicken wings. My husband avoided the lettuce in the eggrolls, it’s like he’s “allergic” to anything that can go inside a salad! The main dish was the Bun Tom Thit Nuong, it includes vermicelli noodles with beef, shrimp, and vegetables. I asked for rice with my dish; hey, I was hungry!

St. Louis is a long way to travel for Chinese food.  I’ve listed my top four favorite local Chinese restaurants in Chicagoland below, and they are not in Chinatown.

1 Chi Tung

Chi Tung has the best lunch buffet in the Chicagoland area! Why is that? Because they serve food from their lunch and dinner menu. EVERYTHING is delicious, and it’s the only time I can get their chicken wings. Any other time, you can only order the chicken wings from the catering menu. I’ve eaten from their Chinese, Thai, and Japanese menus.  The restaurant also has a popular hibachi grill in the back of the restaurant. Even with a large parking lot, finding a spot for your vehicle can be pretty hectic at times. It’s best to come early.

2 New Star

I’ve been coming to New Star since I was a kid, and the flavors at this restaurant keep getting better. They recently finished a year-long renovation, and now also serve Thai and Japanese food with a large hibachi grill within the restaurant. One of my favorite dishes here was the bacon wrapped butterfly shrimp, they recently stop serving it. You can’t go wrong with the Thai Spring Rolls, Shrimp Egg Foo Young, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Kung Bao Beef, and Shrimp with Lobster Sauce.

3 Sun Wah BBQ

I visited Sun Wah BBQ for a friend’s going away party, and boy did we have a blast.  I had the Beef with Mixed Vegetables, which was delightful. Sun Wah is great for large parties and sharing meals.

4 A. Fusion

If you are looking for a great place to eat without the hustle and bustle of the city, you should check out A. Fusion out in Matteson, Illinois. They have great Chinese food and lots of options from their cocktail bar.  A.Fusion has added an Asian Seafood Boil to the menu, very similar to The Angry Crab on the north side of Chicago. My favorite dish here is the Fish Panang Curry!
