My morning routine usually consists of checking my phone to see what’s happening on Facebook. I was quickly reminded that today, October 1, is the one year anniversary of the Las Vegas mass shooting. On that horrific day, I was in town celebrating my 13th year wedding anniversary. After flying in and getting settled into our resort, my husband and I were driving on the strip to go to the MGM Grand to see the Jabbawockeez. Little did we know there was a major country music festival happening, and it was the reason why we were sitting in so much traffic.
Meet my mother Carolyn. She’s a married woman with 2 adult children, 3 grand-children, and 1 great-grand child on the way. Yes she looks amazing for her age! My mom is semi-retired, works hard at being a woman of God (she’s an evangelist), and is in need of a vacation. Fortunately, she has me to tag along for a girls trip!
Between clothes, chairs, at-home exercise equipment, and of course food; when I look over the past few years living a plus size lifestyle, I’ve been spending a lot of money just to be comfortable.
In 2015, we took a family road trip to Texas to see my niece graduate from high school. Half-way through the trip, we stopped in Memphis, Tennesee to take a break, and to do a little sightseeing before getting back on the road. During our visit, my family and I walked on Beale Street to hear the sounds of the blues. We also ate great southern cooking from both Charles Vergo’s Rendezvous and Gus’s Fried Chicken.
Since I was diagnosed with fibroids, it has helped me mentally to know that my body is not weird, and to prepare myself during the dreaded menstrual cycle. Going to work, visiting friends, or going on vacation with family can be a real hassle. Traveling with fibroids can be the worst. There’s more to pack that takes up space in your purse or suitcase – extra clothes, panties, tampons, and maxi-pads! And God forbid, don’t pack anything white!
