The SoulFood Lounge 2, located in the Beverly neighborhood, on the south side of Chicago, offers a globally inspired culinary experience. Chef Quentin Love has a unique menu that blends soul food traditions with international flavors, featuring dishes like Argentinian chimichurri pot roast, Dominican coconut catfish mangu, and Hong Kong honey shrimp.
I visited with two close friends who chose the Grand Tasting option, so you’ll get a glimpse of their food and drink selections. They thoroughly enjoyed everything they tried!
The dining experience here stands out compared to some other Black-owned restaurants I’ve visited in Chicago. What makes it unique is the “Grand Tasting” menu, where you can select three entrées and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and lemonade —all for $70.
The portion sizes for each dish from the Grand Tasting were incredibly generous—much larger than I anticipated. It felt like having three full lunch-sized servings!
Our drinks and food arrived at a decent time. In case you are a slow eater, they do bring the dishes out back to back. The ambiance was elevated by a musician playing piano alongside jazz music—a great touch in the background.
Once the food arrived, I sampled my friends’ dishes—the Japanese Teriyaki Salmon and the stuffing from the Maine Stuffed Lobster. Each bite of the salmon was bursting with incredible flavor! I wasn’t too big of the fan of the stuffing flavor. It tasted sweeter than I would have preferred; making me wonder if someone added jiffy mix or some unnecessary sugar.
The vibe at The SoulFood Lounge is fantastic—perfect for date nights or a fun outing with friends. They also have a sister location, the original spot, on Chicago’s west side in the North Lawndale neighborhood. Due to the cozy seating, making reservations is highly recommended. I can’t wait to return!
