Foodie Review: God Bless the Funnel Cake Sundae at the 26th Street Sugar Shack

Sugar Shack Store Front

The 26th Street Sugar Shack is the place to go to cool down during the summer months in Chicago. I try my best to visit at least twice each year, but it appears me and the rest of Chicagoland is there too.  Usually I have to coordinate and plan a trip with the husband so that I sit with the car as there is rarely street parking available, and he takes my order and brings back sweet deliciousness!

Every year I lie to myself about getting something different on the menu. Well, only once did I actually buy a chocolate and vanilla soft serve ice cream cone and fried oreos. All the other times, my focus has been the funnel cake sundae. It seems to taste better than the one at Six Flags Great America. I believe it’s my imagination, and I just love the convenience!

When you order a funnel cake sundae, you make a choice of getting the regular or mini size. They both come with vanilla soft serve ice cream, 1 wet topping, 1 dry topping, whip cream and a cherry on top. Yes I said wet and dry toppings. Over the years I tend to mix and match chocolate sauce, strawberries, pineapples, or nutella with brownie pieces, cookie crisp, oreos, or cinnamon toast crunch.

Besides the funnel cake sundaes, their menu consists of traditional ice cream shop treats, including nachos, frozen bananas, fried oreos and twinkies.

The 26th Street Sugar Shack is opened April through October from 12pm to 10pm.
